Selected Hadith Regarding Mawlid an-Nabi [S.A.W.S] and the Virtues of Supplicating To ALLAH [S.W.T] To Bestow HIS Blessing and Peace upon the Last Prophet [S.A.W.S]

Sahih Muslim, Chapter 85, Book 1: Faith (Kitab Al Iman), Number 0397:

‘Abdullah b. Amr b. al-‘As (R.A) reported:

Verily the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] recited the words of ALLAH [S.W.T], the GREAT and GLORIOUS, that Ibrahim (P.B.U.H) uttered. My LORD! Lo! They have led many of mankind astray:” But whoso followeth me, he verily is of me” (al-Qur’an, 14.35) and Jesus (P.B.U.H) said:” If THOU punisheth them, Lo! They are THY slaves, and if THOU forgiveth them-verily THOU art the MIGHTY, the WISE” (al-Qur’an, 5.117). Then he raised his hands and said: O LORD, my Ummah, my Ummah, and wept; so ALLAH [S.W.T] the HIGH and the EXALTED said: O Gabriel (P.B.U.H), go to Muhammad [S.A.W.S] (Though your LORD knows it fully well) and ask him: What makes thee weep? So Gabriel (P.B.U.H) came to him and asked him, and the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] informed him what he had said (Though ALLAH [S.W.T] knew it fully well). Upon this ALLAH [S.W.T] said: O Gabriel (P.B.U.H), go to Muhammad [S.A.W.S] and say: Verily WE will please thee with regard to your Ummah and would not displease thee.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 2: Belief, Number 7:

Narrated Ibn ‘Umar (R.A):

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said: Islam is based on (the following) five (principles):

1. To testify that none has the right to be Worshiped but ALLAH [S.W.T] and Muhammad [S.A.W.S] is ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle.

2. To offer the (compulsory congregational) Prayers dutifully and perfectly.

3. To pay Zakat (i.e. obligatory charity).

4. To perform Hajj (i.e. Pilgrimage to Mecca)

5. To observe Fast during the month of Ramadan.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 2: Belief, Number 20:

1. The one to whom ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S) become dearer than anything else.

2. Who loves a person and he loves him Only for ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Sake.

3. Who hates to revert to disbelief (atheism) after ALLAH [S.W.T] has brought (saved) him out from it, as he hates to be thrown in Fire.”

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, “I have been given five things which were not given to any amongst the Prophets (P.B.U.T) before me. These are:

1. ALLAH [S.W.T] made me victorious by awe (by HIS frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month’s journey.

2. The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying and a thing to perform Tayammum. Therefore, my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due.

3. The booty has been made Halal (lawful) for me (and was not made so for anyone else).

4. Every Prophet (P.B.U.T) used to be sent to his nation exclusively but I have been sent to all mankind.

5. I have been given the right of intercession (on the Day of Resurrection.)

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 11: Call to Prayers (Adhaan), Number 588:

Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah (R.A):

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, “Whoever after listening to the Adhaan says, ‘Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-d-da’ watit-tammati was-salatil qa’imati, ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wal-fadilata, wab’ athhu maqaman mahmudan-il-ladhi wa’ adtahu (O ALLAH! LORD of this perfect call (of not ascribing partners to YOU) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established! Kindly give Muhammad [S.A.W.S] the right of intercession and superiority and send him (on the Day of Judgment) to the best and the highest place in Paradise which YOU promised him)’, then intercession for me will be permitted for him on the Day of Resurrection”).

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 22: Actions while Praying, Number 294:

We used to say the greeting, name and greet each other in the prayer. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] heard it and said:–“Say, ‘At-tahiyyatu lil-lahi was-salawatu wat-taiyibatu. Assalamu ‘Alaika aiyuha-n-Nabiyu wa-rahmatu-l-lahi wa-barakatuhu. Assalamu alaina wa-‘ala ‘ibadi-l-lahi as-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha illa-l-lah wa ashhadu anna Muhammad an ‘abdu hu wa Rasuluh. (All the Compliments are for ALLAH and all the Prayers and all the Good things (are for ALLAH). Peace be on you, O Prophet, and ALLAH’s Mercy and Blessings (are on you). And Peace be on us and on the good (pious) worshipers of ALLAH. I testify that none has the right to be Worshiped but ALLAH and that Muhammad is HIS slave and Apostle.) So, when you have said this, then you have surely sent the greetings to every good (pious) Worshiper of ALLAH [S.W.T], whether he be in the Heaven or on the Earth.”

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 55: Prophets (P.B.U.T), Number 504:

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, “Every Prophet (P.B.U.T) was given miracles because of which people believed, but what I have been given, is Divine Inspiration which ALLAH [S.W.T] has revealed to me. So I hope that my followers will outnumber the followers of the other Prophets (P.B.U.T) on the Day of Resurrection.”

Narrated Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Laila (R.A):

Ka’b bin Ujrah (R.A) met me and said, “Shall I not give you a present I got from the Prophet [S.A.W.S]?” ‘Abdur-Rahman (R.A) said, “Yes, give it to me.” I said, “We asked ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] saying, ‘O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! How should one (ask ALLAH [S.W.T] to) send blessings on you, the members of the family, for ALLAH [S.W.T] has taught us how to salute you (in the prayer)?’ He said, ‘Say: O ALLAH! Send YOUR Mercy on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad, as YOU sent YOUR Mercy on Abraham and on the family of Abraham, for YOU are the MOST PRAISEWORTHY, the MOST GLORIOUS. O ALLAH! Send YOUR Blessings on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as YOU sent YOUR Blessings on Abraham and on the family of Abraham, for YOU are the MOST PRAISEWORTHY, the MOST GLORIOUS.'”

Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A):

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, “A slave (of ALLAH [S.W.T]) may utter a word which pleases ALLAH [S.W.T] without giving it much importance, and because of that ALLAH [S.W.T] will raise him to degrees (of reward); a slave (of ALLAH [S.W.T]) may utter a word (carelessly) which displeases ALLAH [S.W.T] without thinking of its gravity and because of that he will be thrown into the Hell-Fire.”

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 4, Book 2: Purification (Kitab Al-Taharah), Number 0451:

‘Uqba b. ‘Amir (R.A) reported:

We were entrusted with the task of tending the camels. On my turn when I came back in the evening after grazing them in the pastures, I found ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] stand and address the people. I heard these words of his: If any Muslim performs ablution well, then stands and prays two rak’ahs setting about them with his heart as well as his face, Paradise would be guaranteed to him. I said: What a fine thing is this! And a narrator who was before me said: The first was better than even this. When I cast a glance, I saw that it was ‘Umar (R.A) who said: I see that you have just come and observed: If anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes the ablution well and then says: I testify that there is no god but ALLAH and that Muhammad [S.A.W.S] is the servant of ALLAH and HIS Messenger, the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 15, Book 4: Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat), Number 0747:

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying: When you hear the Mu’adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a Blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a Blessing on me will receive ten Blessings from ALLAH [S.W.T]; then beg from ALLAH [S.W.T] al-Wasila for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s servants, and I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila, he will be assured of my intercession.

He was then asked about perpetual fasting, whereupon he said: He neither fasted nor did he break it, or he did not fast and he did not break it.
